The Constellation family is one of Omega’s oldest collections, it has been around for almost 70 years. Starting out in 1952 as a chronometer for men, since then it has countless aesthetic transformations.
 
By the arrival of quartz, Omega was quick on their feet embracing the quartz revolution and in 1970, the brand presented three lines of watches with quartz calibres, one of these models, the Constellation.

This time, we are offering a special timepiece, one of the top-range Omega models, the Omega Constellation Chronometer Electronic f300 Hz that uses a special tuning fork movement, caliber Omega 1250, date indicator, Swiss made. It has a central second-hand that moves around very smoothly, the watch makes a very distinctive humming sound.

Today we are presenting this GORGEOUS timepiece! Stylish and collectible, this is a vintage Omega Constellation dress wristwatch, ref. 396.1201 and dated from 1998 based on the serial number.
 
It is a quartz watch powered by an original Omega quartz-controlled stepper motor movement, caliber 1532 (based on ETA 255.111), 6 jewels, sweep second, date indicator, Swiss made.
 
In lovely condition, still the original champagne textured (diamond pattern) dial featuring silver baton hour markers, luminous dots, bold minute/second track, silver/luminous matching hands and black central second. The date indicator is located at 3 o'clock. The dial is signed with the Omega name/logo and Constellation.
 
Very elegant, this watch is cased in a 33.5mm round case, all stainless steel and fixed bezel featuring Roman Numerals in it. Original signed Omega crown, sapphire crystal. The case back features (in perfect condition) the astronomical observatory emblem (featured on every single Constellation case back since the collection was initially launched in 1952).
 
You still can see the observatory emblem surrounded by eight stars that was inspired by the observatory competitions. “The eight stars represent Omega’s greatest chronometric achievements at the annual observatory chronometer tests between 1945 and 1952.”
 
This watch comes fitted with its original stainless steel signed Omega bracelet, reference 1552/862, fold-over push-button deployant clasp with gold Omega logo. The bracelet is currently sized to fit wrists with a maximum circumference of around 7” (17.8cm) – Decreasing the size is fairly easily done by removing some links, but to increasing the size you will need to buy spare bracelet links online or at an authorized dealership.

This wristwatch in very good condition. Runs very well and keeps great time!

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men’s watches typically measure between 29-36mm wide (some larger, some smaller) excluding the crown. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust lighting when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.
